Basketball Backboard Removal – Bulk Pickup Dates

On November 22, 2011 the Borough Council adopted ordinance 11-2445 which amended Chapter 273 of the Borough Code entitles "Streets and Sidewalks". The amendment includes a new section regulating the placement of stationary or portable basketball hoops:

"No property owner shall maintain a stationary or portable basketball hoop between the curb and the sidewalk or against the curb on the street or grass side overnight, or when the road is snow covered, or on refuge collection days or leaf collection days. If and in the event a property owner is found to be in violation of this requirement for a first offense, the property owner shall be notified by Posted Notice to remove the stationary or portable basketball hoop within five (5) days. Any subsequent offense shall require immediate removal. If said stationary, or portable basketball hoop, has not been removed, the Borough shall authorize its removal under the appropriate enforcement proceedings of this Chapter."

Penalties for violation of the amended ordinance shall subject the property owner to a fine of up to $500.00.

Residents who have a stationary, or portable basketball hoop, and no longer have a need for it can place the basketball hoop out for collection during bulk pickup days provided that the basketball hoop is broken down into three separate parts:

Fewer and fewer homes have either fireplaces or access to an alternate method of heating and cooking. New Jersey residents affected by the storms of 2011 may want to consider purchasing an emergency generator.
